The Edge

He stands upon the edge of the world Over the lip of the fine earth, his toes are curled He always imagined the edge would be sharp, refined A stretching infinitude of an impenetrable line  But the edge, it is a soft smile, warm And the sky in front of him is yellow, like bees in swarms  One step forward and he decides To finally, let his own soul fly And with each step forward, soil flutters down in clumps Until he peers into the yellow gaping mouth below and jumps.  -anna sluder

A Letter to Young Women

Dear Young Woman, This is Society writing to you, I wanted to let you know that since you've become a woman, there are rules of just a few, You cannot eat anything other than what I say, And you can't forget to shave your legs for more than one day, You cannot weigh more than one hundred and thirty-five pounds, You must have a flat stomach, yet also have a chest that is round, Dear woman, in order to be loved, you need to be passive, yet be confident and strut, Flirt a lot, but not too much or else you will be called a slut, So honestly dearie the rules aren't hard to commit, Just break yourself down until in our box you fit.  -anna sluder

Soft

love me soft and with heaven we will battle hell and then if you still have to break me soft as well. -anna sluder

A Girl Named Rain

She walks in soft, like the rain, Of gentle plumes of drips and drops, Teary-eyed joys and teary-eyed pains, Of entities undefined, infinitudes that never stop, She lets you dance in her trickling vapor, Upon doused dewy pastures, Leaps of mist, frolics, and capers, There is no joyful rain just like her, Yet she loves the rain for its melancholy, Because it is also like her heart, For the sky knows her torment and her folly, So it cries too so she isn't the only one falling apart.  -anna sluder

Your Lips

Your lips taste like all of the forevers that I'll never get to know  So kiss me now, before his onyx cape flits and the wind blows  Betroth your scepter lips with mine own before his staff shakes Before the sweetness of every death is felt in the last breath of my wake.  -anna sluder

Be Brave Little Ones

Be brave little ones, For you are as indelible as the rays of the sun, You are more beautiful than all that you can see, And infinity cries at all the things you can be, And when God crafted you from the dust into the beloved children you are, He didn't mold you just from the ground; you were formed from the dust of stars, And one day you will be flames, more than just a spark, So hold on little darlings, for without you in this life, the world would go dark. -anna sluder

The Sunlight

They always told us never to look directly into the sun, but as a child I always did. I used to think it would be an honor to be blind if I could  see something as beautiful as pure unparalleled light. But I know now the true reason why they never wanted us to look into the sun, because they want us to find the light within each other, and the light within ourselves, because I swear it's just as bright. -anna sluder
