Caged Bird
The boy's knees hit the floor
When he saw the bird in the cage
He moaned and wept on all fours
Like an animal desperate in its rage
He couldn't believe, he could not
Understand how an animal with wings
Could be shoved in a confine to rot
Instead of flying around the world to sing
He grasped things to stay planted down to see
Despite his mother's yanking hand to get him off the ground
He cried that he wouldn't move till the bird flies free
For caging a bird was like chaining a human's soul bound.
