Red Handed

You squeeze broken glass into your hand, Don't you know that blood won't clean? Your sins won't fall through your fingers like sand, Because you've made them too red to not be seen. - anna sluder

Life is But a Mirage

I snapped a twig under my foot In the silence of a virgin wood And all hell broke loose Like Pandora's box had come to life Okay maybe it wasn't hell But mighty it sure wasn't fine Deer dropped their mouthfuls of leaves, frozen in time, As I watched the foxes skulk away with their tails between their legs Suddenly all the leaves began to plunge as if to rescue that twig Insignificant as it was they all seemed to be wanting to save it As they slowly gathered around, all around my feet And soon enough the leaves unable to resuscitate Began to wither away And the snow like a great friend Came to bury that twig in snow As a proper coffin for a life well lived and a death well dealt Everything shrunk away even the sun hid under the cold And too late I realized the world has buried me in snow too I am shoulder deep in a shroud of white, suffocating, oh goodness, drowning But I haven't got up Oh I haven't climbed out So I dig through the white, yes I f

I Am In Love

Image
Someone once said don't fall in love, Instead one should rise in it, And the best rhyming word for love ever writ, Is actually the winged word: dove. -anna sluder

Yellow

Image
I've never seen yellow eyes, Until I had met you, So pure and trusting, so true, Like sunlight bursting in from behind . -anna sluder

Welcome Mat

When you are angry, You know where you will find me, I will be clawing at your cleats, As I thrash, strangled under your feet. -anna sluder

Thick and Thin

if we were different kinds i'd be thick and you'd be thin for to being hurt I don't mind but you bruise like newborn skin. -anna sluder

Mermaid Love Song

Image
i called out your name into the sand whirls of the breeze but my voice came back the same as the unparalleled echo of the sea. -anna sluder

Snake Skin

You shed me like an old skin,   For that's what snakes always do,   But I guess I will also win,   For it's not only you who outgrew.     -anna sluder

Shadow

your heart is paper thin and see through inside your chest, it sags and falls too low and i find why it is so ghastly askew for your heart is nothing but a shadow. -anna sluder

Verdict

You kneeled upon the ground begging me, To forgive and forget and in you to believe, But that is exactly my proof that you are guilty, For an innocent man doesn't get down on his knees.     -anna sluder

My Uncle's Eyes

Image
<*>   When I look up at the electrifying blue, I marvel at such a wondrous sky, And laughing I realize, it is actually you, I am entranced by that ironic blue in your eyes.   <*>   -anna sluder

Beautiful

Image
Today I am a kite That will soar in a blue kissed sky Tomorrow I am a hand Wrinkled and worn with love Helping the fallen people stand Each day I am something new Not for pretending what I'm not is true But that I will accumulate each beautiful thing into my soul And all of these various entities will somehow make me whole.                -anna sluder

My Mother

There are figures and numbers in her skin, Different words and numbers long and short in her grin, All things she calls home, but only in words, All across her age worn face and lying unfurled, But if you look at them closely, you will see, They are the names and homes of every person she meets, For it's obvious that she loves them all if you only take a look, At how her face has turned into an address book, One name is darker than the others, It's the name of who she'd played in the sun with all day, her brother, Another name is much softer than most, This name took care of her when with cancer she was diagnosed, All are creased and written into the wrinkles of her face, As memories to cherish and a reminder about these people to pray, So when most people become old, And their beauty is nothing to be extolled, She will always be beautiful when she looks at her face, For she has a face full of names of people she's loved and embraced. -anna sluder

If You Love Something, Set It Free

Image
i let you go, like the bird that flies free, but you don't even know, how it broke me to see you flee.       -anna sluder

Two-Sided Love Triangle

You always look at my face,   As if it is that person that I am not,   I won't say the name of her I wish to erase,   For you love her, and me you cannot.         -anna sluder

That Didn't Just Happen

It is not as painful when you hurt me,   As it is when afterwards I must forgive,   For later you act so kind and lovingly,   As if the rage you just let go was fictive.       -anna sluder

Shrink

Image
Please don't look at me through any sort of magnifying glass,   I swear to you, that I am not as any bit as strong as you think,   I will burn and writhe and die under the sun's glowing gas,   For as it reflects off the glass, you'll see how weak I am as I shrink.           -anna sluder

Parachute

My heart was like a faulty parachute, It would open for some and not for others, There was no one for which I had a dispute, Instead I simply didn't like to be smothered, I've never enjoyed people getting too close, Even though my purpose is for them to hold onto me, For I found that human hearts are like a rose, Despite their petals, their thorns are deadly, So when the hearts less prickly would pull on my hand, I'd release my saving colors into a thought bubble above, And guide us down to a soft space of grassland, Thinking this is the closest I will ever get to love, And then there are the humans who I won't open for, That sear me with their thorns and only worry about their value, If they were to plunge to the ground, but what I never construed, Is that when a human falls, the parachute has to die too. -anna sluder

In The End

I will stay with you when the sky decides to fall, Even when that fiery tempered sun blows into the earth, For when the world tells us to avoid being in the universe's brawl, I will gladly be in that painful center with you when it rebirths.     -anna sluder

Society

You built me a box,   And said I had to fit inside,   Pressed within, I was locked,   And between these walls, I died.       -anna sluder

Mime

As a child you said my voice wasn't worth your ears, That I wasn't what you wanted to hear, And when you needed me to talk to you later in my lifetime, I couldn't speak for you had made me into a mime. -anna sluder

Needle and Thread

Image
I never saw how I hurt her,   when I was the needle and she was the thread,   until I saw her scars and where I spurred,   but it was too late for she was already dead.   -anna sluder

Touch the Sky

Image
i turned a cloud over in my hand,   as if it were a different world,   i dreamed of this white puffed lan d   as i tugged its edges for it to unfurl.     -anna sluder

Eyes are the Window to the Soul

Image
Each time you look at the color in my eyes,   You act as though you've never seen that color fly,   Myself being beautiful is far from what I would think,   But I don't mind, for it's like you see me more ea ch time that you blink.     -anna sluder
