one day

One day she saw a ruby diamond floating Way over her head, out of a grasping hand's reach  So she chased it, dying to catch it for keep  Then one day she realized it was a bleeding triangle  Dripping a tail of blood across the perfect blue sky  And then she had to catch it, to keep it from tainting the sky And then one day she looked down at her feet  And realized how she once was that ruby diamond And here now she was, a bleeding triangle  Who forgot to keep the ground under its feet  And in fact the red kite she pursued for years was on the ground Gnarled in between the branches of a bush And here in the light of a blue sky day  Tracking blood across its perfect blue face  She was finally alive and aware for the first time Only to find that she was truly dying  For instead of the kite, the woman was the one who floated away.  -anna sluder

Meet the Other Me

When I was little, I met my shadow behind the alley of Third and Broadway He wrung his hands shyly, searching for words that sounded right  Instead we sat solemnly in the marrow of sunset until he burned away  And then lonely I waited until dawn, for him to come out to play in the light.  -anna sluder

All the Lights

Perhaps the reason why there is no light at the end of the tunnel, And the reason why there are echoes when you yell,  Is because in fact, there is light everywhere around,  And you are not alone, you are not the only sound.  -anna sluder

Your Lying Eyes

I do not understand who I am anymore When I look into the marrow of your eyes I have lost the knowledge of what I was made for When I only listen to your lies.  -anna sluder
