Box Life

Each morning I buy a coffee from a box Then climb into a box and drive to a bigger box Once I walk inside I step into a ringing box that lifts me past other boxes  That are full of hundreds of smaller boxes with even smaller boxes they call offices When I get to my box number I sit down in my box all day long I am cooled and warmed by a box Given drink by a box Kept my food in a box and heated it up in a box I keep my files in boxes Call my friends with a box Stare at the blinding screen of a box all day on my desk And when my eyes hurt I stare out of other boxes on the wall  Into a city filled with boxes big and small All four-cornered, all with equivalent sides And then when it's time to go home  I go home to my box and lay down in a smaller box and sleep Pretending that it isn't a box that is set to wake me up  tomorrow To live another box day in this box life.  -anna sluder
