The Moon

Mama taught me that God holds the whole world in his hands So what if instead of the moon there is a hole in the sky?   And there is no one-step-for-man whitish land Perhaps God's thumb pokes through the hole up high? So when these men touch the craggy peaks of the moon, They're only feelin the wrinkles of God's skin, His white light burstin from a finger as night fades soon, And when it leaves in mornin' it's only cuz God's gotta scratch his chin.   -anna sluder

Sending Flowers

There was a girl who spent her summer afternoon Sending flowers down a river under the lazy sun  Not just different types, but all from different places  A red rose from the small hands of a bride Lilies that once graced the coffin of a dead  Forget-me-nots for all the lovers who have become lost And peonies to heal the broken and the unwell  The girl, she had this prodigious theory  That sending flowers that once took part of millions  Of lives and of a million volatile moments  Would cause all of the ache, amour, and beauty  To all become one sweeping wave, and beauteous stream  That each person and each moment of every feeling Known to humanity would become one  And then everything that hurt would become beautiful And everything beautiful would stay beautiful For life at its best and life at its worst Would never be forgotten and how even though Life is reckless like the waves of the river in a storm In the end the wildness only leads to the ca

Salt of Love

You are foam tided waves Reckless and abandoning When you draw near it is only to Capsize and to wreck me  And then you retreat  Far and deep backed down into self  But dear primitive sea, you untamed maiden how I do love thee  And how it feels indelibly pleasurable  To be riven by you like drowning ship  For you mold me satin and tender  Romping my shells to softest sands What a joy to be severed by you! By the seaweed haired surf  For while beloved is breaking waves  I am the off-white shores waiting Desperately for perhaps one tide Where you will choose to stay.   -anna sluder

Cry

Please, I beg you not to cry,  As your sorrow slowly leaks, For it makes something well in my eyes,  And then it carves down my cheeks.   -anna sluder

To Be Still

I decide to make a taunt, so I send the wind to deliver my dare  The message rattles the trees with a braving mock A challenge to stretch an arm or move somewhere  Rather than being bound to their roots like their locked But the trees send their response back as they sway in the breeze  They whisper to learn the art of being silent, standing on their hill  And then something trickles on top of me, they're reddish orange leaves  They murmur that there is nothing in life if you don't learn to be still.   -anna sluder

Sail With Me

Image
Flying across the sea in our little blue sailboat We are guided by the wind, by the waves How can we trust gravity to keep us afloat  When the water doesn't know what path that it paves?   -anna sluder

Your Precious Heart

Your heart is made of blue skies Red kites and radiant sunshine  Rolling hills and rivers that run wild  Dancing in the snow like a child It is formed from fireflies on sticky nights Of dreams with dragons, princes, and knights  It is born from the daisies in your hair And your kneeling morning prayers It grew from the smell of wind on your skin when you run And laughing in corn mazes for autumn fun  Your heart was raised from the glint of your memory Tended by the people who take part in "we" You are a museum of everyone you've met  Every memory of laughter and sweat  You are everything you've ever known  You are every precious moment that you own -anna sluder

Two as One

Your name is written in my blood The joy of your smile flows through my veins I would never mind drowning in your flood For together, your faults make mine a gain.  -anna sluder

We Are the Ignorant Judge

Everyone misjudges glass, for you hate it  When it makes you bleed from your hand But yet everyone loves to walk on it  When you scrunch your toes in the sand Everyone despises the darkness of the night The cold gasps of the black coma of the sky Until the stars flood the world's absence of light  Then dark doesn't seem like such an ugly thing to deny  Perhaps everything is misconstrued For even the thorns on the rose  That protects itself instead of causing hearts to be slewed Is something we never will fully know Then do we ever understand anything?  Perhaps the universe is too selcouth For the gaping truth of this to bring  For we are nothing more than youth So let us be dizzy and drunk in our mind On how we think the world exists  For no one will see the truth even missed If we weren't ever aware of it in the birth of mankind.  -anna sluder

Read Me

If you could write me down Onto a paper piece  Would each word be black Thick and menacing Or would I be curled  Softly and tenderly From the tip of a feather Am I precise and structured From the strict confines Of a ball point pen Would you write me with The bubbling mud  Of an oaken earth Is my name stained  Down with the chromatic juice  Of fragrant flower petals  Do I cross over the lines Loudly and rambunctiously Snapping the boundaries of words Or am I so small That you can barely read me As if I am not worth it at all If I am illegibly sloppy Do you draw away in fear Of the disaster I may cause?  How you define me  By seeing my handwriting   Is the most important fate For it doesn't matter what  The words do dare to say  If you can't read me at all.  -anna sluder

The Gift of Stars

You say anything is possible, with believing in yourself anything can be done, So I tried to catch the stars in my hand, to capture the wonder of silver and blue, But I was surprised when my hands got burned that you up and started to run, When I was only catching those stars of your favorite colors, as a gift of love to you. -anna sluder

Strong

With my big castle walls and land, I act so brave and strong, But all my walls are made of sand, Me brave? Boy was I ever wrong. -anna sluder
