Baby Shoes

She held a garage sale of all her things in her front lawn   And when someone asked if the price of the baby shoes could be reduced   She couldn't bring herself to find a new price for them drawn   As she patted her flat stomach she said that had never been used.   -anna sluder

March

Daddy marched straight out of our door     But I didn't know that when he packed   To march straight into the war   It would only be a flag that marched back.                 -anna sluder

Just Us

Today is our anniversary, is what I say Make sure we have a table out in the sun My beloved always liked it that way But oh by the way, it will be a table for one.   -anna sluder

Change of Plans

I thought the pilot was going to tell us we're about to land   But instead as the microphone starts crackling I start to wonder if not all is going as planned  As the microphone says, "passengers this isn't you're captain speaking ."             -anna sluder

Foolish Folly

Our world is simply a fool full of folly   But what if we are reading the wrong rules?    In fact, what it is that we cannot flee   Is that our world is a folly full of fools.                     -anna sluder

It Only Takes One

The boy lifted the cold metallic beast to his head Pressing the barrel right between his eyes But he forgot that there's no turning back once you're dead For one bullet is a lifetime supply.                   -anna sluder

Inside

there are songs in my head, too loud for ears there are thoughts in my mind, the paper can't accept but if I don't let it out for the world to know and hear they will haunt me, until I am nothing left.   -anna sluder

Made of Shadows

There was a man who was chasing me down Phantom street   He didn't come out of the plumes of grey alleyway mist to show   And I could not hear him trampling beside my own stampeding feet   No wonder he didn't come out of the mist, for he was made of it, a man made of shadows.     -anna sluder

Each and Every Morning

****   Every single morning I knot my shirt tie   In a manner my wife says is always too loose   But what she doesn't know, is that when she tightens it   She chokes me with the silken rope like it is a noose.       **** -anna sluder

Our Imprint

we are etched into time    like stars in the sky   the way words are with rhyme   and tears fall from eyes .            -anna sluder

The Show

Smile for the crowd, sing for the microphone Drop your dress till it's down so low Don't forget, to get money you gotta be known But my darling, don't you ever get tired of putting on a show?                              -anna sluder

Weight of Death

It's selfish of me not to worry about him, instead my own life As I stand, weeping, over my father's solemn grave I don't even ponder the pain it must be for my mother, his wife  Instead all I can think, his how it will be my mother who teaches me how to shave.  -anna sluder

Ink Inside of Me

You signed your name on the marrow of my bones Autographed on each chamber of my heart So I wasn't surprised when you had shown Clues that you had the jurisdiction to break me apart .                -anna sluder

Car Crash

When the metallic came thrashing and swerving Toward my mirror and into my mirror I didn't think of my impending doom of all things Instead all I can think is that objects in mirror are closer than they appear.  -anna sluder

Flowers in Her Hair

she wears flowers in her hair crown,   draws them on her wrists until there's no room,   and lies in the pouring rain as if she could never drown,   receiving her wish when leaves sprout from her wrists in greenish plumes,   and the petals in her hair spill the sweetest of perfumes,   for the girl had truly gained the precious ability to bloom. -anna sluder

Written

it is always said that poets write their feelings but there are words beneath that don't fade away,    cryptically written in invisible ink,  they are the feelings that a poet can never say.   -anna sluder
