May Flowers

The sky hums to the heartbeat of the the earth Flowers budding, the earth groaning as it gives birth  To verdurous infant grass and shoots of embryo hue  People plucking flowers by stems to snap the cord of two  To cradle the blossoms in their arms is the cause of a flower  Whether giving to a lover or to spruce the woman's locks And the suckling of color is not missed for in nature's next shower Is born more chromatic stalks and buds in a flock For flowers are meant to brighten a life too dull With the ecstasy of a child's wonder and radiance Until the person rocking the flower in its arm feels full Of everything that is beautiful and good that life grants  For the earth as the mother, gives birth to the vibrant buds  So we see the colors of the spring instead of the mud.  -anna sluder

Caged Bird

The boy's knees hit the floor  When he saw the bird in the cage He moaned and wept on all fours Like an animal desperate in its rage He couldn't believe, he could not  Understand how an animal with wings Could be shoved in a confine to rot Instead of flying around the world to sing  He grasped things to stay planted down to see  Despite his mother's yanking hand to get him off the ground He cried that he wouldn't move till the bird flies free For caging a bird was like chaining a human's soul bound.  -anna sluder

Chaos of Imperfection

We are a people of chaos We are walking mirrors of fear We are much like the earth when it is hurt We tremble and we quake We flood and we break But never do we drown all Or completely snap ourselves in half We have to let the desperate parts in us scream To be able to sit quiet and heal We have to be reckless to live  To hold ourselves together We are much like the earth Because after it cracks and it screams After its storm is when the most  Beautiful skies do appear But the earth and you, the earth and me We are also all children  We are simply and individually a child  That has to throw its tantrum  In order to let go of the past to heal The child has to weep and sob To know that it has the ability to feel And like the earth that calms after its roar Silently healing as the sun rises in the sky Like a bandage for a wound  Deep in a drowsy haze of knowing everything's okay So is a child after it cries It falls asleep  Tenderly without a fear on the earth And to heal the things t

The Price to Be

There was a man standing at life's gate He told me that to get in there was a pricy fare I had to wear tight clothes and tame my curls straight The fare was to make what the world thought was beautiful and fair.  -anna sluder

Sparkle

Glimmering on the tense surface Able to walk on it and it won't break Like stars streaking down in a race Are the sparkles on the water's wake. - anna sluder

Yellow Wedding

I got down on one knee and proposed to the sunshine Asked it if it would like to spend the rest of its life with me For I always craved that incandescent joy and brightness to be mine But if I married the sunshine, from the dark the world would never be free.   -anna sluder

Bladed Tongue

You sharpen the tip of your words like silver knives Aiming at the perfect target in my soul But I have made a shield around me to survive  You weren't expecting me to turn up without any holes.                                                                          -anna sluder

In A Daydream

I am unconscious of where I am Comatose of the world around me And I'm afraid of piling my fantasies up like a dam  Because one day the water has to break free.  -anna sluder
