May Flowers

The sky hums to the heartbeat of the the earth
Flowers budding, the earth groaning as it gives birth
To verdurous infant grass and shoots of embryo hue
People plucking flowers by stems to snap the cord of two
To cradle the blossoms in their arms is the cause of a flower
Whether giving to a lover or to spruce the woman's locks
And the suckling of color is not missed for in nature's next shower
Is born more chromatic stalks and buds in a flock
For flowers are meant to brighten a life too dull
With the ecstasy of a child's wonder and radiance
Until the person rocking the flower in its arm feels full
Of everything that is beautiful and good that life grants
For the earth as the mother, gives birth to the vibrant buds
So we see the colors of the spring instead of the mud.
